Breakdown:
The primary focus will be on speed, agility and quickness.  The secondary focus will be multi directional transitions and backward skating while promoting creativity for players.

On ice - Players will start with specialized edge work and then break into training groups that rotate through instructional stations.

Specifically, 20 minutes of each day will be dedicated to backwards skating. Backwards skating leads to better balance and drastically improves players transitions and skating creativity on the ice.

There will be a concentration on functional edge work and application while learning to use specific body mechanics and gravity to leverage speed.  The secondary focus will be on stick handling, passing/shooting, puck control and situational game play.

Off Ice – Our unique off ice training draws from both hockey and figure skating techniques to teach body awareness as well as strength and conditioning.  Players will master on ice skating skills with the confidence and familiarity of dryland designed to complement and accelerate their on ice skating.

The Spring 2023 program will consist of 7 weeks of intense, high-tempo practices and off-ice sessions focused on pushing players outside their comfort zone and giving them the tools needed to reach new heights in their young careers.

Potential tournament team option:  If there is interest at the conclusion of the 7 week training program, players will be invited to tryouts for selection to play in a tri-state area tournament.  Not all players are guaranteed a spot on the tournament team.  There will be additional fees for the tournament bound players.

 FAQ

Do you hold tryouts for the Machines Academy?

No. There are no tryouts for the Machines Academy training program.  Interested students must submit a player application.  We draw from a mix of highly motivated and driven AAA, AA and A level players of all ages.

Do you hold tryouts for the Tournament Teams?

We select our teams from Academy players and outside tryouts.

What can my player expect from a Spring Machine session?

The Spring Machine Select Hockey Academy will provide players the opportunity to hone their skills both in on-ice and off-ice training sessions each week. Off-ice training will help reinforce skills practice on the ice and provide technical instruction from experienced coaches. Each on-ice practice will be high-tempo, competitive and fun. Practices will be a mix of station based training and small area games with a focus on a high number of puck touches, application of skills, and recognition of hockey scenarios in a fun, competitive environment.

Is this just another skating camp?

No. In fact, while we reinforce the importance of skating in all we do, the Spring Machines program will focus primarily on hockey skill development outside of skating, including technical skills like skating with the puck, stickhandling and shooting, situational play, offensive creativity, and proper defensive play.

What do you expect from the players?

The program seeks driven athletes and will create an extremely competitive training atmosphere. We  believe that competition spurs development, so each practice will push players to compete and give maximum effort each drill. The program will be composed of athletes that bring creativity, work ethic, and individual drive that represents what KNPS strives to develop in our students.
